World Cup is back again after 4 years! Well nowadays there seems to be absolutely no lack for tournaments of this size as the T-20 world cup and IPL matches offlate seem to be there always around the corner, so much so I'd say the relative hype of a huge gathering of international teams for an event seems to be less this year than the previous episodes. But of course, it being hosted by our Cricket crazy country, there is absolutely no lack for media hype and the several reviews by different sets of commentators.
The Indian team, this time around, at the beginning of the tournament, actually looked like it was at it's peak with quite a Captain, team rapport and seemingly the best team India has ever had at the world cup and this one being extra special for the famously known "Little Master", as it is his final World Cup! But unfortunately some of the matches till so far have been complete lack lustre not just in the Bowling Department, suprisingly in the Batting too! The team famed for it's batting line up, seems to still depend on Sachin to show the light at the end of the tunnel, still left clueless once his early departure happens like in the last match! Anyway that topic is reserved for another time, this one is gonna be about this guy whose fans seem to address him "God" once too often and this kinda irked me which is why I am writing this now.
How do you define God first of all? Is calling Sachin "God" alright?
Reading these two above questions make the reader (if they are a fan of Sachin) might in all probability get upset/angry for they feel he undeniably deserves that place! Does he is my question, please read through and analyze for yourself?
Here is a guy, who at the age of twelve gets recognized for his batting skills and vigourously trained by his coach in Mumbai, makes it to the Ranji Trophy and eventually to the Indian team at the young age of 16 with his stroke making and brilliant talent for batting as such.
As time progresses, he dons the captain role for a while, realizes it's not his cup of tea, hands it over and decides to experiment further when he practice his bowling, turning himself into an all rounder. This guy, is just yet another normal guy who faces criticism from the whole Media when he was out of form, who gets afflicted by several injuries.
So finally he manages to wriggle out of it all, and achieving glories of the greatest nature once considered impossible, so how did he do it?
I personally feel calling him a "God" just removes all the innumerable hardwork and determination he has put in as a human being into just some term we use to assign what he did as impossible. An escape tactic at best.
People out there who seriously consider him the so called "God" they address, please don't just see the match and cheer for him! His life has been his message! The way he walked during the match just went to show how much his conscience mattered to him above everything else! He has been a epitome of hardwork, determination, strength, courage and most of all integrity!
Instead of isolating him from your life by calling him a separate entity called "God", why not take him to be a inspiring role model not in terms of how he bats, but how he lives his life?!! When pushed to a corner, imagine the corners he may have been pushed to in his, all he did is put his mind as a strength behind his soul and worked towards his passions Blindly working hard irrespective of results! I am reminded of a quote of Bhagawad Geeta when i think of the previous line i wrote
"Karmanye vadi Karaste Ma Phaleshu Kadachana,
Ma karma Phala Hey thurbu,
Maa te sangosva Karmani"
Which means do your work as your should, in the best way possible, but do not expect results, they will automatically come, but the outcome must not be the aim of your effort which is exactly what Sachin is doing so beautifully.
Ultimately it depends on what you see yourself as a fan, just another person cheering out loud for a few hours for a day and then going on to bother about your business your way or truly holding him in your heart to help you cross over the several problems you'll face in your life and maintaining the kinda grit and determination that he is a champion of :)

only a fan can feel what he means when he hails sachin as GOD..romba yosikatheenga :) Rise of India is almost synonymous with Sachin's growth. I suggest u to read 'Immortals of Meluha'!!
Anbe Sivam !! So GOD is a collection of consciousness of all human beings around you !! He is the most elite one among them !!
I second vicky on this.. You have no idea what all inspirations we get from the GOD.. God is someone who is perfect and thats how ppl relate to sachin.. Ppl learn from him everyday.. I dont even understand you reasoning behind why we should not call him so..
http://t.co/SHYmcfh.. Read this blogpost by baggy.. read the part on sachin.. you will atleast get an idea..
Well if you are seriously taking inspiration and trying to imbibe values that you learn from him, i'd be the most happiest person :) When and if faced with problems, if you can muster the determination and grit to face it like him, instead of saying I can't do it, He did it because he was "God" then that i feel is a excuse :) That's about it... what i meant to convey is that It matters about how you imbibe him into your life that's more important than terming him "God".
I read that blog! The point of his blog and my blog is totally different, his blog is a tribute to the two people, several people worship! But amongst the very people who do Abhisekam to Rajni, follow the principles he displays in his so many films? That is my question!
@Sathya: ya i agree with you on the Anbe Sivam part, I am all for it. Just that calling him "God" won't suffice.
aaha :D we are not here to debate over God Vs Atheism :D See..it is just out of affection that fans adore him as GOD. thats it and thats all about it :) we dont expect him to solve our problems or do fantasy stuff to help us. It is just that he is superhuman on field and still claims he is the student of the game which makes emotional ppl like us to call him 'GOD'. maybe it looks too much for not-so-ardent fans of sachin. It is like Rajini-mania.
@shri: wow..i actually posted the comment and checked ur recommended blogpost after that :D was amazed to find rajini-sachin link :D hi-fi
I think there is a small clarification needed at this point! I don't mean to bring in the debate of God or Atheism or anything you guys think i am referring to! You can call him whatever you want, you all have the liberty to! I don't think
you should spare him that affection. But that affection will be more reflected from your actions rather than your words is all i meant to say.
@Vicky: He does not solve your problems and need not do so, I am asking you is to think thru his eyes when you face a problem or a tight scenario or integrity Vs Achievement issues that you will definitely all face in your lives. Maybe nobody'll be watching you then, unlike Sachin, but your conscience will. Adoration and Admiration is different, an Inspiration is different.
I may not call him "God" but i immensely respect him for the values he portrays with his life as is obvious from the blog.
super :) apdiyae itha mudichipom :P
ithuka ivalo akkaporu?? :D
I ll try to learn more from my sachin and implement in my life whenever possible. :)
God, is someone who is seen as some higher self who can do almost anything that can be imagined. Someone who can almost every time answer to the prayers of the disciples, someone in whom people can trust in, someone in whom one can see hope and happiness, someone whose presence is likely to give them another sense of pleasure, another moment worth living for, someone worth praying to. And Gods do the hard work for you. When you pray, you feel that God will take the burden off your shoulders, do it for you, help you, make you feel lighter...
As I come to see it, fans of Sachin have felt the same way about him, thus, the sobriquet, "God". There is that devoted attitude in them towards him, that they would say anytime "In Sachin we trust".
I am not a fan of Sachin, always have appreciated him, but have my own reasons to be a fan of others. Vicky, Sathya, Shriram know about that. But, more than what Sachin has done on the field, the best way to measure his achievement is by looking at his impact off the field.
There have been sportspersons with justified sobriquets like King, Queen, Star, Magic, Magician, Wizard, Ace, Emperor, The Don etc... Sachin, as "God" is also a justified sobriquet.
Understood :) Thanks for the input, Bagrat :)
